Last weekend, I had coffee with a former colleague turned friend. Let’s call him Kira since that’s his gaming nickname. He recently came back to Malaysia from Japan. During our catch-up, we talked about work stuff as we used to work together on a software project but mostly we talked about games.
I told him I started playing Dungeons and Dragons lately with some friends and that my dungeon master recommended Baldur’s Gate to me since I love the whole role-playing aspects especially in medieval theme. I did look into Baldur’s Gate but I haven’t get started on it since I’m quite occupied with a new open world survival RPG, Once Human and of course my all-time favourite, Genshin Impact, just recently released a new map.
Although I’m a full-time content creator in the space of gaming and find myself gaming most of the time for content, there’s only so much games I can play. Long story short, Kira recommended Guild Wars 2. I have heard of this game but it’s a decade old game so I was a little hesitant to start it this late. But Guild Wars 2 did check off my personal requirement of a game I would stick to for long; open world, RPG, good storylines, nice graphics, multiplayers, etc.
Besides, it’s a free-to-play games with options to purchase the expansions. I went home that day, logged in to Steam, downloaded and installed the game. I made a mistake not checking with Kira on which server he’s playing. I can’t play with him unless I changed the server which will require an upgrade. Lo and behold, he paid for my mistake. He purchased the expansions for me. I was like, “What if I don’t like the game and stop playing?” to which he responds, “Then my investment fails.”
I know it may be a little early to tell since I’ve been playing it for only a week but it’s safe to say for now, I think I’ll stick to the game and not because I feel obliged to since Kira paid for me. I enjoy it so far although I foresee more complicated quests will come my way. I’ve been reassured many times that GW2 has a great community who’s welcoming, friendly and helpful. That’s all I need to keep me playing.
I recorded some of my first gameplays here in this video. Would you like to play it too? 😉 If yes, I’m on America server.
